Welcome the official website of singer/songwriter, author James Burchart. Inside you will find the latest news, a journal, and an acoustic travelogue of small towns, lost souls, and true confessions, shot through with rich undertones of simple the Christianity he practices.
James was raised in Nelson BC in the heart of the Kootanays, and as a teenager he spent his evenings in the coffeehouses listening Bruce Cockburn, Valdy, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, or some other unknown artist work their magic with guitars, fiddles, and unpolished voices. Before long he had a guitar of his own and was putting songs together.
Before long James came under the musical mentorship of British recording pioneer and Hawkwind keyboardist Del Detmar, and in Del’s studio James made his first multitrack recordings. He eventually moved to Vancouver Island where he recorded ‘Songs for the Common Man’ and ‘Lost within the Flame’ at the Vancouver/Victoria punk/alternative Mecca, Downtown Sound. Both albums recieved steady college radio and MuchMusic rotation.
James currently lives with his family in Chilliwack BC, and he is currently completing on his third studio album.
